Tights as Pants… It’s A Go!

So, it seems that last fall when Kendall Jenner came out rocking a super stylish ensemble of black Calzedonia tights with a versatile black knit sweater, a bundle of sunflowers in hand and some pointy toed slingbacks. It seems that “the no pants look” became known and, well, seems to be being embraced. As the trends for 2023 are bending even more towards this trend, it looks like it might be here to stay.

Back in March, I came across the “COLOR YOUR LEGS” ad from Calzedonia on instagram. I quickly forwarded the bright pink floral patterned tights over to my stylist friend Tera Coughlin, saying, “I’m obsessed with lace hosiery!” They have them in so many different patterns and colors, for $20 (Little did I know they run a deal: Buy 2, Get 1 Pair Free) I mean freaking great, right?!

And… Tera ❤️me back…

What is it about showing a bit more leg, making that look happen and being in my mid 40’s completely acceptable? I’d have to say a mens oversized and I mean very oversized light cashmere sweater with some tights could make that look work (for me).

In fact, I’ve been wanting to try some tights with some color and pattern for a while and it’s a perfect time to pick up a super oversized cashmere sweater. Seeing that spring has kicked off and closeout sales are everywhere.

Granted, we have seen this look done with micro denim shorts, micro minis and even metallic see-through or mesh skirts that seem to barely be on. These are all big trends in 2023. I still own a pair of vintage mini Levi’s denim shorts that I am now thinking of pulling out and grabbing some tights. I even have a pair of tailored cuffed metallic shorts that would work if I paired them with an old school band tee and possibly a bright colored pair of tights with a killer pattern.

Let’s talk through some options, because I recently read an article written by Rosa Sánchez in Harper’s Bazaar entitled “I Wore Tights Instead of Pants for a Week and I've Never Felt Dressier“

So, I can only imagine that for me this no pants trend would work with wearing oversized t-shirts, tunics, vests, oversize cardigans, a double breasted coat, a short trench and of course some micro tailored shorts and, well, I think we can say just about anything as long as you're comfortable with how much leg your showing off… Am I right?

Laria Bortesi, head of style at Calzedonia recently said, "The tights as pants trend is a simplified way of pulling together a polished look. It allows you to play with accessories, shapes, and outerwear in a new way" (Article From Harper’s Bazaar).

Let’s get this trend going!
