Tank Tops and Camisoles… Oh My!

It’s getting hot out there! I have committed to getting on the reformer for some arm and ab workouts, and well, the whole body workout more than a few times a week. It’s mainly because, with Spring and Summer right here, I know I will be showing more skin.

I must admit, I am not overly big on sleeveless shirts, tank tops or even camisoles.  I have recently worn some on Style and Give’s Weekly Podcast trying to push myself outside my comfort zone.

In my perfect world, I would wear long sleeve tops, t-shirts and dresses (and this would work in the summer…again, in my perfect world).  I just don’t want to show my arms.

I know that everyone has that one area on their body that maybe makes them feel a bit uncomfortable.

Well, now you know mine.

The arm dilemma.

I want to start rocking out the silk camisoles and the ribbed tanks and even a cropped spaghetti tank top (gasp)... but I have to get over my arm dilemma.

At times, we can be so critical of ourselves that we won’t try anything new.  We become so worried that what we see is what others see.

I recently went out shopping with a friend (if you read my blogs or listen to my podcasts you know it is Tera Coughlin of Tera Coughlin Styling).  So we were out shopping and I fell in love with a LoveShackFancy Cropped Tank Top.  I tried it on, and yes, the first thing I said was “My arms look big.” Tera looked at me like I was crazy and said, “I don’t see what you see.” Tera even took some pictures of me in the cropped top. I have included them in this Blog.

I ended up not getting the tank top. I thought about it for days and had major buyers regret and then found out it SOLD.

Of course, I was too chicken to get it for 70% off because I believed my arms looked too big. I want to point out that the bow was so big in front of this beautiful cropped spaghetti strap tank top my arms barely peaked out.

The point is… don’t let yourself talk yourself out of something you love just because you think you should look different in it.  Yes, there are times when garments don’t fit but more times than none…. I find the criticalness of ourselves is really the only thing holding that garment back from coming home with us.

So next time you're out and start to hear that voice saying something negative, quickly reaffirm yourself, your body and your mind.

You are perfect the way you are and if you love that tank top or camisole - Buy it, Flaunt it and own the beauty you are inside and out!
