It is freezing, so I’m layering up.
I am figuring out if short boots are even an option with the amount of chilled air coming through my cropped-ankle black pants.
I got smart last week and ordered 2 pairs of RE/DONE jeans that would
absolutely cover my ankles and make me wear a covered boot that would give
me a triple layer of padding around my leg (granted I wear heavy socks… which I did).
If you're in Hawaii or living in a warmer climate… You're doing something right. Because right now, in most of the United States, it is ridiculously cold. I’m talking layered sweater cold, possibly long johns under pants weather.
It’s “wearing gloves over your chic cool fingerless gloves you'd prefer to be wearing” kind of weather, with a possibility of doubling up on scarves and thinking the only jacket you need ever own is your Canada Goose Down.
Yep… winter came; and it is here and with vengeance!
So, back to layering…
I have begun to ask myself, “If I wear a hoodie, what can I layer over it to keep me warm but also keep me looking fashionable?” I’ve found that vests really come in handy and, since I wrote a blog on vests recently, (link to Blog “Get Your Vest On”) I knew what I had in my closet.
They are a great layering option with this weather. Get your vests out and put them on! I also am not completely ruling out that I may or may not have worn a balaclava. If you're unaware of what a balaclava actually is, well… it is a cloth headgear designed to expose only part of the face, usually the eyes and mouth.
If you're a skier you know what I am talking about. I have seen more and more balaclavas that expose the face while covering the neck, ears, and head being worn out regularly. Here is one of my favorites from Free People.
So, if you're looking for a bit more coverage, this would be a good layering piece to wear with a crewneck sweater and layered with any coat. I have also noticed I have been layering under my sweaters for added warmth.
I would recommend the following:
Madewell Long Sleeved Ribbed Tee (Currently on Sale for $34.99)
Everlane Rib-Knit Crew ($75)
Splendid Classic Long Sleeve Tee ($58) and Splendid Classic Long Sleeve Turtleneck ($39)
Uniqlo HEATTECH Long Sleeve Crewneck Tee- Shirt ($29.90)
Free People Early Night Thermal Shirt ($60) - LOVE THIS UNDER AN OVERSIZE CARDIGAN
Eddie Bauer Essentials Ribbed Long Sleeve Crewneck Shirt (Currently on Sale for $28)
The Great Shrunken Sweatshirt ($175) - I have several of these that I layer under larger sweatshirts.
If you're looking for a chunky knit sweater for added warmth, here are some of my fav’s:
REONA Slouchy Sweater ($180)
The Reset Max Mock Neck Sweater (Currently on Sale for $91)
House of Sunny When the Sun Goes Down Cardigan (Currently on Sale for $112)
R13 Distressed Leopard Print Sweater (Currently on Sale for $218)
Christopher John Rogers Colorblock Oversize Wool Turtleneck Sweater ($875)
The Row Kensington Cashmere Sweater ($1290)
Loewe Oversized Cashmere Sweater (Currently on Sale for $680)
When it comes to dressing up to fight the cold, it’s best to throw on as much as you can and then take off a layer or two if you get too warm.
So, right now… Layer Up!
