I recently came across this article from Vetta on how to define your style. I have been asked to define my style using 3 words before… I have also had stylists define my style for me.
In fact, while writing this blog I reached out to Tera Coughlin to ask her opinion (seeing that she is an amazing stylist) on how she sees my fashion style….she responded quickly as if she already had me pegged… Edgy, Polished & Elevated. Thank you Tera, you nailed it!
I would describe my personal style as Eclectic, Modern & Edgy.
Granted, after Tera mentioned Edgy, Polished & Elevated, I thought, well, she’s right!
How do you really define your personal style vs how people see you?
I mean how many times do we look at fashion pieces and say this is soooo…..”insert name now”...am I right?
Growing up watching “Sex in The City,'' my group of friends each had a character that would resonate with their personal style. I always considered myself a “Carrie” and, well, my friends would say…no Rachel….you're a “Samantha”.
Looking back now, heck yeah, I was Samantha!
My style icon at this moment is interior designer/fashion designer Kelly Wearstler. I get excited to see what she posts on her Instagram and TikTok… not just her interior designs (because they’re stunning) but also what she is wearing.
She has this incredible way of wearing something that you would think of as casual, but she makes it immediately architectural, eclectic and polished all at the same time (wait… that sounds familiar). If you're not following Kelly Wearstler, then you need to. She needs to be on the cover of Vogue this YEAR… LIKE NOW! Wait, she was featured in Vogue Living and on the cover of Vogue Living (Netherlands in 2019) but not for her fashion, which, as I said, is incredible.
So when combining words to describe your personal style… I would think of your favorite style icon or fashion images that you have emulated or are emulating now. Look at how you put your fashion vibe together: colors, patterns, and accessories. This will help narrow down the 3 words that help you define your personal style….
Do what I did and ask a friend!
